Hi.

My name is Emery, I'm twenty three years old.
I started drawing as a little kid like most. I was far from a child prodigy, I was very average at smiley faces and flowers, but I loved it so unbelievably much. My mom enabled me with endless sketchbooks and buckets of supplies (thank you mom) and art became all I wanted to do. Infinite possibilities before me in the shape of a crayola box.

My personal practice is rooted in punk and queer culture. I got my first gig designing for a band when I was 16. I submerged myself in crude cartoons and gothic lettering at a very young age, and have only gone deeper since. What started as a love for the aesthetic soon became an interest in politics and activism as well as self expression. I began to explore gender as a performance as I discovered my own queer identity. I understood that I was "other" from the rest of the world. I used punk and art as a tool of both love and resistance. Love for myself, and resistance to be changed.

The arts have been my biggest comfort in life. I feel so strongly for the community of people I have met through what I do. My passion is driven by keeping 'DIY' art scenes alive for the women, queer, and gender diverse people that I work with most often. These communities struggle to make ends meet and showcase their talent at the hands of landlords and corporations. I recieved a minor in Business so that I may extend my art practice into the preservation and maintenance of these DIY spaces and communities.

I just received a BFA from the University of Michigan. I never pursued a specific concentration in my studies. I preferred floating between the studios as they peaked my interest. I walked away from this experience a jack of all trades. I can confidently weld, cast molds, paint nudes, draw cartoons, design posters, shoot film. Anything I think of, I can summon into existence. If I have a vision, I will execute, even when it means learning a new medium on the fly.

This website is an archive of some of my favorite works from over the years, organized how I like. Enjoy clicking and discovering.
